On The Run

On Sunday, September 13th, we gather at Elant at Fishkill for their annual Grandparents Day.

The weather was perfect and as always, the residents and their families enjoyed the cars.  Those present were John Fare with his roadster, Andy Hager with his 40 Mercury 8,

Joe and Karen Hines with their Model A sedan and Joe's 94 year old Mom, Ken Pick with his Tudor and George Tompkins.

It was also nice to see Cathy Tompkins and Dotty Hager who are both residents there.

As Karen was parking the A, the transmission locked up.

The car would start but was stuck in 3rd gear.

After fighting to get the shift tower off which took a while, we         discovered that the pin holding the fork in place on the shaft was put in upside down and worked itself loose and broke off.

George to the rescue.  He went home and brought back an          assortment of roll pins.  Fortunately one fit and we thought we had the problem solved.  When we went to reinstall the shift tower we discovered that the fork(s) was bent enough to not fit on the gears.

Joe's son came to take Karen and Joe's Mom home and Joe rode with the tow truck.

A great day was had by all.

The weather was perfect for our version of the International Drive Your Model A Day.

We began on Rt. 9W at the McDonalds in Highland and took Rt. 299 to New Paltz and traveled south on Rt. 32, onto Rte. 44&55 and Albany Post Road into the Town of Montgomery Park.  We stopped along the way to visit some orchard stands and took pictures of the group and cars beside the Wallkill River.  We had lunch at          Carmela's just east of Montgomery.

The tour was about some 75+ miles in length with the A's seemingly loving the weather as much as the drivers and no one experienced any mechanical problems.

It was good to have Don and Cathy Sbordone with us.
